Most rugby clubs in the Northern States are about to head inside to escape the wind and snow for the next couple of months. For many, this is the time of year to knuckle down in the gym, pack on a couple of extra lbs for the upcoming season and work on your deadlift. The members of our latest partner club are no different. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome the Springfield Rugby Football Club to our list of sponsored organizations. Better known as the Springfield Rifles, they’ll become one of our first partners in Massachusetts and it’s an honor to have them.
Before we talk too much about the Rifles though, a quick shout-out to the club’s current sponsors. For anyone who has worked in management at a rugby club before, you’ll know just how difficult it is to both acquire and keep a sponsor. We encourage anyone who is in the Springfield area to make a special visit to McCaffreys, the only Irish Pub in downtown Springfield. And if you happen to be an adventure-racer, consider hauling yourself off to the Rugged Maniac obstacle course race and leap over some obstacles in collaboration with the Rifles.
Springfield Rugby Football Club (SRFC) has earned a solid reputation in the New England Rugby Football Union. The club recently celebrated its 45th anniversary (in 2014). In recent years, the membership at the Rifles has dramatically increased in size. In the past, the club was primarily focused on their men’s team. But this changed back in 2007 and the change in attitude towards membership has seen the emergence of women’s, high-school and U19s teams. Each one of these teams has also grown in size since inception. The club is exceptionally competitive in all grades and both the men’s and women’s squads won their respective NERFU Championship Cups in 2015.
This partnership is more than a commitment on our part to provide Rifles’ players with quality nutrition products. We’ll also be assisting with promoting their fund-raisers, social events, live streams of their game and more. The Rifles will also receive a cash donation every time a player or supporter makes a purchase on our website.
