Why its important to Ruck Smarter
Rugby is one of the most physical sports out there. But it’s also a game that requires elite levels of concentration during exhaustive physical exertion. One way to improve your performance on the rugby field is simply to Ruck Harder, by taking supplements that will enhance your athletic performance. The other way is to Ruck Smarter and in the process, make your life easier on the field requiring less physical exertion for the same results. This means picking up calls, assessing dynamic situations and reacting to game play faster. Who doesn’t want that?
The limitations of pre-workout supplements
If you’re any kind of amateur athlete, you’ve likely used pre-workout powders before. Pre-workouts are excellent at increasing short-term alertness, energy efficiency and physical strength outputs. But they aren’t designed to give you more mental clarity and control over fine motor skills. When taking a pre-workout in isolation, your synapses are firing faster, but you’re not necessarily working to your brain’s capacity yet. Image a V8 engine that only has 6 cylinders functioning. Even if those cylinders that are working are at maximum output, the engine can still only reach 75% of its potential power. In a similar way, taking a pre-workout will get your cylinders firing at capacity, but it won’t help maximize your cognition and working memory.

How to use this protocol to Ruck Smarter

The rest of this Usage section will focus on the protocol for combining 80 Brain™ and Twitch Faster™ to maximize your cognitive performance during rugby training and games.
Ruck Smarter at Training
Rugby training usually goes for about 2 hours. This will vary depending on your club and team, but we're basing our protocol on the fact that you'll be training for between 90 and 120 minutes. Because 80 Brain™ needs to be digested and absorbed into your bloodstream, its our recommendation that you take it before your pre-workout. So while you're probably tempted to mix your pre-workout and use it to wash down your brain supplement, try to resist this urge. Get your brain supplement down at least 20 mins before the start of training to give it time to settle. With that done, we suggest taking 3/4 of a single cup of pre-workout mixed into 500ml of water at least 10-15 minutes before rugby training starts. If your sessions are slightly longer and you have a decent warm-up period, you could actually consider taking your pre-workout at the start of your warm-up. This will let it kick in during warm ups so that when you start drills, you're all set.
Ruck Smarter during Games
This protocol is similar to training except for the timing. Obviously, you can't be drinking pre-workout as you run onto the field, because you want it to have already kicked in. So for games, make sure you take Twitch Faster™ when you're warming up.
