We’re sad the Olympics are over for the USA Eagles 7s teams. But we’re happy to be able to tell y’all about a new sponsorship deal we’ve signed while everyone’s attention was on Rio. The Union Country Lady Mudturtles are the latest amateur rugby club to get on board with our sponsorship program. The agreement starts on August 15th and will run indefinitely at the discretion of both parties. Read on to learn more about the deal and how we’re helping to support women’s rugby in the garden state.
The Lady Mudturtles are a newly-formed affiliate of the Union County Mudturtle Rugby Club based in New Jersey. The Lady Mudturtles were created in 2014 as the sister club to the Union County Mudturtles who have been prominent on the New Jersey rugby scene since their inception in 1974. Until recently, there was only two adult women’s rugby clubs in the entire state of New Jersey, leaving former college and high school players the choice to travel to play, or to give up the game after finishing college.
The club has an inclusive structure. The Lady Mudturtles are committed to providing an opportunity to play for all interested club members, ranging from experienced ruggers to those brand new to rugby. They provide a competitive and social outlet for women in Union County while serving as the natural progression in growing the game through the Mudturtles youth and High School girls programs.
The Lady Mudturtles have one of the better women’s rugby Instagram accounts. The team regularly posts about viewing parties, touch tournaments and results of games. There’s also a bunch of great shots of the Mudturtles in action against their local opponents and shots of the girls enjoying the party after the game too along with the men’s club.
