How can whey protein help you as a rugby player?

Rugby is the toughest sport in the world. It requires the ultimate combination of strength, skill and endurance. Such an intense sport takes a toll on the body. The impacts, the functional movements, the speed and the variety is brutal on muscles. And that’s just during a rugby game. We haven’t even talked about the gym training and fitness sessions.

Amateur and professional rugby players alike need a way to restore muscles to full working condition and if possible, make them better. Our product team developed Rugby Whey to be the ideal whey protein for post-rugby recovery.

Whey protein powders may be able to accelerate:

  • repair of muscle damage
  • recovery from weight training
  • lean muscle development
  • site-wide protein synthesis

WHEY PROTEIN Vs SOLID FOOD

You should absolutely be consuming both. Whey protein is NOT a substitute for a balanced diet high in simple carbohydrates, lean proteins and green vegetables. If anyone tries to tell you that whey protein can be used as a meal replacement, politely show them the door.

But whey protein does have several advantages over solid foods when it comes to muscle repair and energy storage. It’s easy to transport in your rugby kit bag, consume as part of a shake, and it keeps for ages. This makes it a vital training partner and one that you should use regularly after gym sessions, rugby training and rugby games.

Why choose Rugby Whey?

We’ve put the time in to researching how rugby players use a variety of supplements - including whey protein powders. Before training and games, our product team recommends using an No2 booster and a pre-workout supplement, depending on your training goals. But your body needs help recovering as well. Rugby Whey is our custom formula that we believe best suits the needs of the amateur rugby player. The carbs are there, the amino acids are there and now comes in four awesome flavors.

WHEY PROTEIN PROTOCOLS

For most of us, using whey protein has become second nature. But for those of you who haven't used a whey protein supplement as part of your rugby diet before, Ruck Science has developed the following protocol which we believe maximizes the benefits of using whey protein. For specific advice on how to incorporate Rugby Whey into your diet, please contact our product team. They can also give you information about how to use Rugby Whey in combination with other supplements like our cognitive enhancer, 80 Brain.

After Rugby Training

The biggest mistake we see amateur rugby players making after training is just jumping straight in their cars and driving home. But we're all busy people with places to be, so this seems to be the standard. If you can resist this urge to shoot off home, (maybe tell the Mrs that rugby finishes 15 minutes later than it really does) there's huge benefits to sticking around for a few minutes. We suggest you have a shaker in your kit bag ready to go. Grab it as soon as training finishes and then sip it over the next 15 minutes while you're stretching and cooling down. Your muscles will thank you. Try it now in our rugby training supplement stack.

After Rugby Games

As with training, its really tempting to not take care of yourself after a rugby game. The fans and family are out, the beer is cold, there's every excuse to just jump on the beers and forget that you need to wake up tomorrow. But delaying your post-match celebrations by 20 minutes can make all the difference. The best time to have your protein is while you're in the shower. A few quad stretches and air squats while you're sipping it is just the ticket. Try it now in our rugby recovery stack.

After Hitting the Gym

This one should be pretty familiar. If you're trying improve as an amateur rugby player, you should absolutely be in the gym. A scoop of Rugby Whey protein after your squat session will help your muscles recover faster and build mass. Take as much as necessary, there's no wrong way to do it. But try to get it in within 30 minutes of your workout finishing.

NO PROPRIETARY BLENDS

We are committed to providing the cleanest supplements on the market. That's why none of our new supplement formulas (including Rugby Whey) contain proprietary blends of any kind. Know your supplements and let's help keep rugby clean

    Jude Howe

This is without question the best tasting protein powder I have ever used. It’s ridiculous. Somehow they’re squeezing 5-7 more grams of protein per scoop as well. Great product.

I’m not a huge fan of whey powder, and I probably never will be. However, this Ruck Science product is FAR less icky than anything else I’ve tried thus far. My trainer likes it too!

    Dan Smith

This stuff is pretty damn good (chocolate). I’ve been drinking the chocolate almost every day for the last month. I drink it at work an hour or so before I go to the gym as a “”snack”” and then at home after dinner to help recovery.

I’ve been seeing and feeling some positive results, and can’t wait to get some more when my supply runs out.

Probably one of the better, if not best tasting protein (vanilla) I’ve tried in the past few years. Love the NO2 max, as well as the beets. Thank you.

I’ve tried both flavors and both are good! I do think the chocolate tastes better though. It mixes really well in water…haven’t tried it in milk yet

    5 out of 5 It's protein powder

    Mac May

The taste is fine, which is phenomenal as far as most protein powders I’ve tried. I use slightly less water than recommended cuz I like the taste a bit stronger, and it mixes well. Not perfect, but well. Less “chunky” than OJ with pulp.

I tried both the chocolate and vanilla Rugby Whey powders and both taste amazing. They seem to mix well whether you are using water, milk, soy milk, almond milk. Definitely will pick up some more after finishing the other brand I was using!

4 out of 5 Arguably one of the best - few touches and it will be.

    Ben Roach

Protein – protein is overall a great consistency. Its a bit heavy, even with 32 ounces of water, its still a bit heavy – I have trouble finishing a full shake most of the time just due to how heavy one scoop can be. The carb and protein is a great balance, I personally would like to see a higher protein count, by a few grams just so you aren’t doing a scoop in half vs a scoop after workouts.

5 out of 5 Tastes Great and Gets the Job Done!

    Pete Simes

I was introduced to Rugby Whey in the Sample Stack and it’s definitely the best tasting protein powder I’ve ever tasted. It mixes easily and completely and the texture is smooth. It’s easy enough to drink after a hard training session. I’ll continue to get Rugby Whey and support them over other whey powders because Ruck Science supports the ruggers of the world.

  16. Shaneisha

5 out of 5 Tastes Great

    Shaneisha

Of all the protein powders I’ve gulped down with a grimace, this one I took down with a smile. The powder dissolves really well, does not have a gritty texture, and actually tastes pretty good. The amount of protein per serving is pretty average from others I’ve seen and or used, but that’s not a negative, because this is not (and should not be) my only source of protein for the day.

Doesn’t have the strong overbearing taste of some whey products and mixes well with water (or Gatorade for the other crazies out there). What more can you ask for from a whey product?

5 out of 5 This is going to be a regular in my pantry

    Todd Jarvis

Very pleased to find this product. The taste is top quality. It mixes easily and is very smooth–important to me, since many powders are chunky. The price is right and the quality great. I also like that my club gets a cut and that I can support a rugby-centric company.

    Jacob

This stuff is great! It taste like cake and can be mixed with anything. 24g isn’t a lot per serving but if I need to pack a lot of protein away two scoops will do me.

  23. Timothy

5 out of 5 Love the new flavors

    Timothy

The new flavors themselves are nice, but mostly I like that they mix better. Something about the new formula makes for a much smoother drink. I think my favorite flavor now is cookies and cream, though they’re all very good, especially by whey-standards.

I added this protein to my workout regimen in April, and people are starting to notice the changes. Definitely effective.
